The 2016 Rio Olympic 2016: Summer Olympic Games will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. Rio 2016, officially known as “The Games of the XXXI Olympiad” is the biggest international multi-sports event in the world. Olympic legacy is the oldest traditions in the sports history. Victory in the Olympic Games is considered the most prestigious achievement to the athletes. Even taking part in the Rio Olympic 2016 is a dream of a life time for thousands of young athletes around the worlds. The Opening and closing ceremony
Opening and closing ceremony of Summer Olympic Games 2016 will be staged at Maracana stadium respectively on 5th and 21st August. Over 12000 volunteers will take part in these events which will feature the Brazilian cultures through the country’s various musical styles.
Fernando Meirelles, Brazilian film director famous for his Movie” City of God” is a member of the team of directors for the opening and closing ceremony of Rio Olympic 2016 along with film directors Andrucha Waddington and Daniela Thomas, production executive Abel Gomes and samba school creative director Rosa Magalhães, one of the most famous figures of Rio Carnival.
Deborah Colker and American live-event director Steve Boyd are two choreographers.
Athletes and events
More than 10,500 athletes from a record 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) will participate for 306 sets of medals. Kosovo and South Sudan are scheduled to take part for the first time in Olympic. There will be total 306 events in 41 disciplines in 28 sports, including rugby sevens and golf, which were added by the International Olympic Committee in 2009.
Venues
Games will take place in total 34 competition venues in the host city Rio de Janeiro and 5 more football venues in São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Brasília, and Manaus.
Rio Olympic 2016
All the venues are clustered in 4 different zones of Rio de Janeiro. Barra da Tijuca, Copacabana Beach, Maracanã and Deodoro are those Olympic zones. The Olympic village is situated in Barra da Tijuca.
Athlete’s village
The athletes’ village is claimed to become the largest in Olympic history. Fittings will include about 80,000 chairs, 70,000 tables, 29,000 mattresses, 60,000 clothes hangers, 6,000 television sets and 10,000 smart phones.
Mascot
Rio Olympic 2016
2016 summer Olympic Games official mascot is “Vinicius” named after one of Brazil’s most prominent 20th century cultural icons, musician Vinicius des Moraes. Vinicius constitutes a blend of animals native to Brazil and symbolizes the diversity of Brazilian culture. The mascot’s fictional back-stories state that it born from the joy of Brazilians after it was announced that Rio would host the Games.
Official Logo

The official emblem for the 2016 Summer Olympics was unveiled on 31 December 2010.The logo represents three figures, in the yellow, green, and blue of the Brazilian flag, joined at the arms and in a triple embrace. The logo has been noted as evoking Henri Matisse’s painting Dance The logo was based on four concepts: contagious energy, harmonious diversity, exuberant nature, and Olympic spirit.

Urban Renovation for Olympic Games
Large number of construction and development works is undergoing in Rio de Janeiro to make the Olympic Games a success. The urban renovation project includes 700 km of public networks for water supply, sanitation, drainage, electricity, gas and telecom; 4 km of tunnels; 70 km of roads; 650 km2 of sidewalks; 17 km of bike path; 15,000 trees; three sanitation treatment plants. The Games require more than 200 km of security fencing.
